Online prices: 191 audited tarot readers, October 2026, with each welcome offer applied as published (Kasamba: 3 free minutes then 50% off up to $50; Purple Garden: $30 credit; Keen: 5 minutes for $1). Email prices from our email reading audit; in-person from Thumbtack’s national cost guide.

Kasamba gives the cheapest first reading for anything from 10 minutes up, Purple Garden’s credit makes very short readings free, and Keen is the simplest place to talk on the phone because its readers charge the same rate for calls and chat. Online Tarot Reading Prices by Platform

The same reader quality costs different amounts on each site, because each platform has its own price culture and welcome offer.

PlatformTarot readers auditedMedian rateMiddle half of readersReaders at $3/min or lessFirst 20-min reading at median
Kasamba76$4.99/min$2.99–$7.1224 (32%)$42.42 (3 free min + 50% off)
Purple Garden71$4.99/min$3.99–$6.9911 (15%)$69.80 ($30 credit)
Keen44$6.26/min$3.84–$8.997 (16%)$94.90 (5 min for $1)

Three things stand out:

  1. Kasamba has the deepest budget tier. A third of its tarot readers charge $3/min or less, and its welcome offer (3 free minutes, then 50% off the rest of your first reading, up to $50 off) is the strongest for a 15–30 minute session.
  2. Purple Garden clusters in the middle. Half its tarot readers sit between $3.99 and $6.99, and the $30 first-purchase credit can cover a short first reading entirely: a 6-minute question with a $4.99 reader costs nothing out of pocket.
  3. Keen is the premium phone room. Its median is higher, but 5 minutes for $1 is the cheapest way to try one premium reader, and Keen readers charge the same rate for chat and phone.

The Three Price Tiers, and What You Get in Each

Budget: $1.99 to $3.75 a minute

You’re not buying a beginner here. Some of the highest-volume readers on these platforms sit in this tier because they’ve chosen volume over price. Examples from our audits:

  • tarot on Kasamba ($1.99/min chat): 47,813 readings since 2015, used by regulars like an ongoing counsellor.
  • Spiritual Shiwa on Kasamba ($2.99 chat, $2.49 voice): 44,530 readings, a structured tarot reader with an MBA.
  • Krys Britton on Keen ($2.25/min): 49,000+ readings since 2010 with Egyptian oracle cards; concrete, actionable answers.

Best for: yes-or-no questions, a quick check-in, or a regular weekly pull.

Mid-range: $3.75 to $7.44 a minute

The heart of the market, and where most love and career tarot happens.

  • Golden Eye on Kasamba ($4.99/min chat): 113,722 readings since 2004 across tarot, astrology and dreams.
  • Miss Bathsheba on Kasamba ($4.99/min): 71,618 readings, a second-generation tarot specialist.
  • Nick on Purple Garden ($4.99/min): grounded card-based guidance with all five of the platform’s badges.
  • Master Sher on Keen ($4.29/min): structured tarot with “no false hopes”.

Best for: a full spread on one relationship or decision, 15–30 minutes.

Premium: $7.44 a minute and up

Long track records and high demand. You pay for consistency.

  • A Divine Spirit on Kasamba ($12.99/min, same for voice): 46,731 readings since 2007 with a 99.5% approval ratio; one client logged five years of her predictions.
  • Truelovetarot on Purple Garden ($6.99/min chat): 40,061 readings at a perfect 5.0, love and specific-person questions.

Best for: a big decision where you’d rather pay for the reader you trust most. Use the welcome offer on this reader, not a budget one, because the offer saves more on a higher rate.

What Changes the Price of a Tarot Reading

FactorEffect on priceTip
FormatChat is often cheaper than phone or video on Kasamba and Purple Garden; Keen charges the sameCheck both rates on the profile before you connect
LengthOnline readings are billed per minutePrepare your question so the clock runs on the reading, not the setup
Reader demandHigh-volume readers often raise rates over timeFavourites at a lower rate are worth finding early
Spread sizeA Celtic Cross takes longer than three cardsAsk for a three-card spread for a single question
Email or recorded readingsPriced per question rather than per minuteGood for a considered answer to one question
In personPriced per session, usually 30–60 minutesAsk for the session price and length before you book

The format gap can be large. On Kasamba, Cosmic Fusion charges $3.99/min to chat and $39.99/min by voice, so the same reading costs ten times more by phone. Always read both rates.

How Long Should a Tarot Reading Be?

Question typeTypical lengthCost at the $4.99 median (standard)
One yes-or-no question5–10 minutes$25–$50
A three-card spread on one situation15–20 minutes$75–$100
A Celtic Cross or full relationship spread25–40 minutes$125–$200
Several life areas in one session40–60 minutes$200–$300

Most people get the most value from 15 to 20 minutes on one clear question. See three-card tarot spreads and the Celtic Cross spread for what each spread covers, so you can match the length to the question.

Online vs In-Person Tarot: Which Costs Less?

Online is usually cheaper for short, focused readings; in person can be better value for long sessions. An in-person reader charging $109 for an hour works out to about $1.82 a minute, cheaper per minute than most online readers. But you pay for the whole hour, whether your question needs it or not, plus travel.

Online wins when you want:

  • One question answered in 10–20 minutes, without paying for an hour.
  • A choice of thousands of readers, filtered by rating, specialty and price.
  • A written record: Kasamba saves every chat reading to your account.
  • A welcome offer, which no local reader can match for a first visit.

In person wins when you want a long, unhurried session with someone local you already trust.

How to Get the Most From a Tarot Budget

  1. Spend the welcome offer on your first-choice reader. Offers cover your first reading on each platform, and they save the most on a mid-to-premium rate.
  2. Write your question before you connect. “What do I need to know about where things are heading with Sam in the next three months?” gets more from 15 minutes than “Tell me about my love life.”
  3. Choose chat for value, phone for flow. On Kasamba and Purple Garden, chat is usually the cheaper format.
  4. Ask for the spread that fits. Three cards for one question; a Celtic Cross only when you want the full picture.
  5. Use the satisfaction guarantee if a first session doesn’t click. Kasamba and Purple Garden offer up to $50 in credit for a first session with a new advisor (request within 7 days); Keen offers up to $25 on any conversation within 72 hours.

What is a typical tarot reading price list?

At the $4.99/min online median: a yes-or-no question (about 5 minutes) costs $24.95, a three-card spread (10 minutes) $49.90, a love spread (15 minutes) $74.85, a Celtic Cross (30 minutes) $149.70 and a full hour $299.40. Email tarot readings run $10 to $100 and in-person readings average about $109.

What is a fair price for a tarot reading?

Around $3 to $7 a minute online, or $70 to $160 for an in-person session. Many experienced online tarot readers charge under $5/min: 53% of the tarot readers we audited do.

What is the cheapest way to get a tarot reading online?

Use a welcome offer with a budget reader. On Kasamba, a 20-minute first reading with a $1.99/min tarot reader costs $16.91 after the 3 free minutes and 50% discount. On Purple Garden, the $30 credit covers a 15-minute reading with a $1.99/min reader entirely. See free tarot reading online for what is genuinely free.

Is a $1.99-a-minute tarot reader any good?

Often, yes. Several of the highest-volume tarot readers we audited charge $1.99–$2.99 a minute, with tens of thousands of readings. Price reflects how a reader runs their business as much as skill, so check the review count, rating and recent reviews rather than the rate alone.

Why do some tarot readers charge $10 a minute or more?

Demand and track record. Readers with decades of history and a large group of regular clients raise their rates; 12% of the tarot readers we audited charge over $10/min. They’re worth it for a big decision if you’ve confirmed the fit, ideally with a welcome offer.

How long is a typical tarot reading?

15 to 20 minutes for one question with a three-card spread online; 30 to 60 minutes for an in-person session or a Celtic Cross covering several areas.
